On October 27, 1917, during the Italian retreat from the Kolovrat following the Caporetto offensive, the troops found themselves surrounded by Austro-Hungarian forces advancing from Tribil Superiore and S. Leonardo. In response, they entrenched themselves around the small church of San Nicolò, built in 1294.
Two German commemorative crosses and an Italian plaque on the facade honor the victims of that violent hand-to-hand combat. Inside the church, there is a large wooden statue of San Nicolò, inspired by the style of Domenico da Tolmezzo (15th–16th century), along with two 18th-century statuettes of San Matteo and San Lorenzo. Unfortunately, all the statues have been heavily repainted.
