Kolovrat

The Kolovrat is a mountain ridge in the Julian Alps that stretches between Italy and Slovenia, renowned for its spectacular views of the Soča Valley and the Natisone Valley. The area, rich in meadows, forests, and biodiversity, is ideal for hiking, mountain biking, and nature photography, offering peace and breathtaking vistas of mountains such as Matajur, Monte Nero, and Triglav.

In addition to its natural beauty, Kolovrat holds great historical significance: during World War I, it was the site of crucial battles. Today, the Kolovrat Open-Air Museum preserves trenches, tunnels, and military posts, carefully restored to recount the soldiers’ experiences and the events of the Italian front. The historical trails, complemented by informative panels, offer an engaging journey through the memory of that period.

Located between two cultures, Kolovrat serves as a bridge between Italian and Slovenian traditions. The surrounding villages reflect this cultural fusion, with local cuisine blending flavors from both nations. It is a remarkable destination that combines nature, history, and culture, perfect for those seeking authentic experiences in a unique setting.
