The Venetian Palace in Malborghetto, built in the late 16th century, is one of the most significant historical and architectural landmarks in the Val Canale. Originally the residence of a wealthy iron industrialist, it now houses the Ethnographic Museum, which focuses on the history and traditions of the local area.
The museum covers various aspects of everyday life in Val Canale, including geology, paleontology, and the cultural traditions of the Latin, German, and Slavic communities that have intersected here. Inside, visitors can explore dioramas and projections on the Tarvisio Forest and traditional festivities, such as Christmas celebrations with a special focus on the famous “krampus.”
The palace also features a garden with an ancient lime tree, considered a natural monument, and offers sections dedicated to the economic and mining history of the region, particularly related to the Raibl mines.
The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
