The “Testimonies of Rural Civilization” Museum in Prossenicco, located in the municipality of Taipana and part of the MISMOTU museum network, is a true custodian of local historical memory. Housed in the village rectory, the museum offers a rich display of everyday objects related to rural life and a valuable collection of masks from the Pust, the traditional Slovenian Carnival. Among the most emblematic masks are the Pejoner, the Plehutar, the Tabar, the “te liepe” (beautiful masks), and the “te garde” (ugly masks), as well as the mask of the Pust, which is symbolically put on trial for the previous year’s wrongdoings.
Prossenicco, a brave land on the border, offers a fascinating ethno-anthropological itinerary that includes the museum collection, the photography collection, and the Black Kitchen. The exhibition also includes artifacts from the First World War, some collected around the village and others from the Breginj collection, reflecting the tumultuous history of these places.
The visit is completed with the photography collection, the Black Kitchen, and the Church, restored by the Superintendence of Fine Arts, where the 18th-century Dressed Madonna is preserved.
