Mount Lussari (1,790 meters) is a mountain in the Julian Alps near Tarvisio. It is famous for both its spiritual significance and its scenic beauty. Monte Lussari is home to a highly venerated Marian sanctuary, the Sanctuary of Monte Lussari, which dates back to the 14th century. According to legend, a local shepherd discovered a statue of the Madonna here, an event that led to the construction of the sanctuary. The church later became a pilgrimage destination, attracting devotees from Italy, Austria, and Slovenia.
The mountain is also a popular tourist destination, especially for hikers and skiing enthusiasts. In winter, the Monte Lussari Ski Area offers slopes of varying difficulty, while in summer, numerous hiking trails allow visitors to explore the surrounding nature and enjoy spectacular views of the Julian Alps.
The village around the sanctuary is picturesque, featuring traditional mountain-style houses, and reflects the cultural blend typical of the area, where Italian, German, and Slovene influences converge.
