The Museum of the People of Val Resia

Located in Stolvizza/Solbica, a picturesque village in the Resia Valley (Val Resia), in the province of Udine, at the foot of the majestic Mount Canin—the highest peak of the Julian Prealps Natural Park—the Museum of the People of the Resia Valley is housed in the historic Buttolo Ploc House (Ta-par Plocavi), a traditional 18th-century residence restored by the museum.

The museum offers visitors the chance to explore both the tangible and intangible heritage of the valley. Visitors can admire traditional architecture, period furnishings, and objects, including a permanent reconstruction of a kitchen and bedroom from the last century, along with temporary ethnographic exhibitions updated every two years. A dedicated section of the museum highlights the rich heritage of local fairy tales, fables, and legends, accompanied by academic studies, especially those of folklorist Milko Matičetov (1919–2014), who extensively researched the oral storytelling traditions of the Resia Valley.

Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 16:00; Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays from 14:00 to 16:00. Closed on New Year’s Day, Easter, November 1st, and Christmas.
