The Antiquarium – Historical Museum of Camporosso, located in the municipality of Tarvisio, is dedicated to the Roman history of the area, particularly the customs station that connected Aquileia to Noricum (present-day Austria). This small museum holds precious archaeological finds, including numerous inscriptions and sculptures, highlighting the significance of the site during Roman times.
The museum is especially notable for its collection dedicated to the Mithraic cult, a deity widely worshipped during the Roman Empire, particularly among soldiers and state officials. Key artifacts include sculptures and inscriptions related to the Mithraeum, a place of worship discovered in the area in the 1970s.
Inaugurated in 2013, the museum is housed in a historical building and is organized into two main rooms with an educational display that explores the history of the Roman customs post and the spread of the Mithraic cult. The exhibition includes significant funerary relics and inscriptions that shed light on the life and beliefs of the time.
